PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device for a vehicle capable of improving the outward appearance of a dial plate. SOLUTION: This display device 1 for a vehicle has the dial plate 11 for transmitting light from the back side of a translucent substrate 111 to the surface side only from a light-emitting display part 110 corresponding to a desired design provided on the surface side of the translucent substrate 111; a light source 14 provided on the back side of the dial plate 11; and a dimming part 16 interposed between the dial plate 11 and the light source 14, for adjusting the quantity of light from the light source 14 so that transmitted light transmitted through the light-emitting display part 110 becomes uniform. The device 1 for transmitting the light dimmed by the dimming part 16 from the light-emitting display part 110, thereby allowing a user to view the translucent substrate 111 from the light-emitting display part 110 by the transmitted light, and allowing him to recognize a display color of the light-emitting display part 110 has a characteristic wherein the dimming part 16 is formed from halftone dots in a similar color to or in the same color as the display color.
