PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tensioner capable of suitably resisting excessive chain pressing force. SOLUTION: This tensioner is provided with a body 614 having a surface 614c with a profile of a chain path and a groove 615 formed along the length direction of the surface 614c and having a pocket part 615c on both ends; a resilient chain guide element 612 arranged on the surface 614c of the body 614, having a chain sliding surface 612b and two ends 612c and 612d wrapped around the ends of the body 614, with the chain guide 612 being sufficiently larger than the body 614, such that the chain sliding surface 612b is capable of being biased away from the body 614; and a blade spring 618 stored in the groove 615 with its ends restrained by the pocket part 615c, and biasing the resilient chain guide element 612 out and away from the body 614.
