A fluid coupling assembly comprises connector body (14), and retainer (16). The connector body defines extending tube receiving bore including surface defining entrance opening. The retainer is axially insertable into the bore of the connector body through entrance opening. The retainer includes body portion in the bore, and at least two locking mechanisms extending rearward from the body portion toward the entrance opening. A fluid coupling assembly (10) comprises connector body, and retainer. The connector body defines extending tube (20) receiving bore including surface defining entrance opening. The retainer is axially insertable into the bore of the connector body through entrance opening. The retainer includes body portion in the bore, and at least two locking mechanisms extending rearward from the body portion toward the entrance opening. The locking mechanisms are capable of radially inward deflection on insertion of retainer through the entrance opening. The locking mechanism defines deflection surface(s) engageable with surface defining the entrance opening during insertion of retainer into the bore. The deflection surface(s) on the locking mechanism is disposed axially forward of the deflection surface(s) on another locking mechanism towards the retainer body portion and engageable with the entrance opening defining surface prior to engagement of entrance defining opening surface by deflection surface on another lock mechanism. INDPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) forming a fluid coupling assembly attaching the retainer to the tubular mechanism with the front abutment surface in abutting relation to the upset; attaching the seal mechanism to the tubular mechanism forward of the retainer; and inserting the tubular mechanism, the seal mechanism and the retainer into the bore of the connector body through the entrance opening and positioning the rear abutment surface in abutting relation to the annular radial surface in the bore;and (2) protective cap sub-assembly for a quick connector coupling comprising a protective cap having a hollow sleeve, an annular ring spaced from the sleeve, column(s) connecting the sleeve to the ring, and securement clip(s) extending from the sleeve; a seal mechanism disposed radially inward of column(s) and securement clip(s); and a retainer including an annular ring portion, the ring portion of the retainer is releasably connected to the protective cap by the securement clip(s), where securement clip(s) is configured to permit flexing thereof to release the retainer from the protective cap. |
