DATA TRANSMISSION TO A POSITION SENSOR

Data transmission to position sensors is provided to offer improved methods and devices to wirelessly communicate data with devices and tools used in a position tracking system. A drive signal for driving a field generator is generated(100). A control signal including control signals is overlapped to the drive signal by modulating the control command in a control sub-carrier having the different frequency from a drive frequency of the drive signal to separate the control signal from the drive signal(102). The field generator is driven by the drive signal to generate a field detected by the sensor(104). The sensor determines position coordinates of the sensor and demodulates the control signal to extract the control commands by detecting the field(106). A function of the sensor is controlled on the basis of the extracted control commands.
