Step switch has an expansion vessel for accommodating changes in volume of the insulating fluid. To accommodate these changes in volume, the movement of a bellows is used. An equalizing device is mounted directly on the head of the step switch. The oil volume of the equalizing device is equalized to the useable compensation volume difference using a pot-shaped internal cylinder in the compensator forming the outer wall, or by arranging an negative internal compensator in a pot-shaped outer cylinder.
