The method involves storing measuring data and operating parameters of a measuring device as time series, and recording the data and the parameters as a function of operating period. A drift over the time is determined. A mathematical extrapolation of the drift is determined according to a variable time cycle in the drift and a maintenance time is determined from the extrapolation. An independent claim is also included for a software program product for execution of a method of operating a measuring device.
