PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent lamp not generating noise, having long life, capable of obtaining uniform and planar light emission. SOLUTION: A transparent electrode 24 and a planar electrode 25 are formed on inner face of glass plates 11, 12 respectively, and a sealed container 15 is formed by connecting them with a glass spacer 13. A phosphor film 18 is formed on inner face of the transparent electrode 24, and a circling supplemental conductive wire 31 is arranged at an edge part protruding beyond the glass spacer 13 of the transparent electrode 24. It is made to discharge and emit light by connecting a sinusoidal power source 34 between the circling supplemental conductive wire and the electrode 25. A dielectric film 35 made of glass spacer is formed on inside face of the electrode 25. Discharge gas, of which partial pressure is about 10 torr, is sealed in the sealed container.
