PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a screw shape measuring device and a method which enable the high-precision measurement of the shape of the screw in a short time. SOLUTION: The optical screw shape measuring device comprises the irradiation means for irradiating the screw part of the object to be measured with irradiation light, the projection plate oppositely disposed to the screws of the measurement object on which the silhouette image formed by the light passed through the screw part and the light shielded by the screw is to be projected, and the photographing means for taking the silhouette image of the screw projected on the projection plate. The light from the light source of the irradiation means is made parallel light, and the light axis of the irradiation means is set parallel to the winding line of the screw.
