PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a CPP type thin film magnetic head for suppressing the generation of a sense current magnetic field and improving the stability of the head. SOLUTION: In the CPP type thin film magnetic head wherein a thin film magnetic head element is provided between a lower shield layer and an upper shield layer and a current flows vertically to the film surface of the thin film magnetic head element, a plurality of division parts magnetically divided in a track width direction are provided in at least one of the lower shield layer and the upper shield layer.
