<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact illuminating device capable of radiating illuminating light whose uniformity is high, and a projector using the same. <P>SOLUTION: A first light source light beam LB generated in a light source unit for blue light 51a is made linearly polarized light in a specified direction by passing through a first polarized light conversion device 61a, and advances while it is totally reflected on the inside surface of a first light guiding part 71a. In such a case, the first light source light beam LB propagates while it is uniformized through a first rod part 72a where it passes on one way, a second rod part 72c where it passes on one way twice, prism parts 72e and 72f where it passes on one way and a synthetic rod part 78 where it passes on one way, and emitted as the linearly polarized light from an emitting port OP4. A first light source light beam LB generated in a light source unit for blue light 51b is processed in the same manner. The first light source light beams LB generated by the first and the second light source units 51a and 51b for blue light are both uniformized while they are made the linearly polarized light, and emitted as extremely uniform first illuminating light LB2 of the polarized light from the emitting port OP4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
