<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the technology of adjusting a resist with high accuracy without increasing toner consumption and time needed for the resist adjustment. <P>SOLUTION: A glossy belt is used as an intermediate transfer belt. In addition, a test pattern sensor is constructed to detect positive reflecting light. This makes it possible to separately cut and detect a black resist pattern image and color resist pattern images. Accordingly, unlike the invention described in a first patent document in which a pattern for detecting the timing of resist pattern start is not provided other than the resist pattern images, using the detected black resist pattern image as a reference makes it possible to determine whether the resist pattern image has been accurately detected or not.
