PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a person who enters a projection range directly views light emitted from a light source when he (she) enters the projection range in a front projection type display device, and then the person who enters a projection area is dazzled and feels very unpleasant when he (she) views the light source because there is possibility that the density of luminous flux in the projection area is increased if the positions of optical parts in the device are deviated from normal positions. SOLUTION: The display device is equipped with a function for detecting the positional deviation of the optical parts in the display device. A function for weakening or stopping output from the light source used to project a video when the positional deviation of the optical parts is detected is added to the display device. For example, when the optical parts are positionally deviated, an electric circuit is disconnected, a certain signal is transmitted to a control circuit, and the output from the light source is stopped, whereby the person who enters the projection range is prevented from being dazzled and feeling very unpleasant when he (she) enters the projection range.
