<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form scaleable characters constituting a font database by forming character codes, character models, local dimensions and segment descriptors. <P>SOLUTION: The method and apparatus comprise; selecting the characters from the set of the characters stored in the font database and assigning a character code (1310); forming the character contour (1322); determining the segment end point in a character model obtained with respect to the character using the character contour (1330); measuring the local dimensions with respect to the corresponding association of the character model (1340); determining the segment descriptor relating to each shape segment of the character contour (1350); repeating the operation for the remaining character (1360); determining the overall dimensions applicable to the set of the one or more characters (1372); and forming the character code, the character model, the local dimensions and the segment descriptor for each character together with the overall dimensions. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
