<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and inexpensive locking device with a simple structure capable of smoothly actuating a movable member of the locking device without hindrance, and muffling operation noises annoyed to a shock absorbing material having high reliability for locking and unlocking as a locking device. <P>SOLUTION: This locking device comprises a first movable member 30 reciprocatable between an engagement position to an external mechanism 100 and a disengaging position, a first energizing member 60 energizing the first movable member 30 toward the engaging position, a second movable member 20 reciprocatable in a direction perpendicular to the first movable member 30 between a locking position for overlaying one end on an action area terminal end and an unlocking position for detaching it in an disengaging direction of the first movable member 30, a second energizing member 50 energizing the second movable member 20 toward the locking position, and an adsorption type solenoid 10.
