PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner efficiently carrying out defrosting under the ideal conditions. SOLUTION: In the air conditioner, an opening of an expansion valve 3 is controlled in a closing direction, and a driving rotational frequency of a compressor 6 is lowered in response to a temperature drop of an indoor heat exchanger 2 during defrosting of an outdoor heat exchanger 5. Accordingly, in comparison with a conventional one controlling the opening of the expansion valve 3 and the driving rotational frequency of a compressor 6 in response to passage of defrosting time measured by a timer, defrosting is efficiently carried out under the ideal conditions responding to environmental conditions or the like.
