PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize the performance of a sensor with a metallic working face without jeopardizing the mechanical resistance of the sensor. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an inductive presence, a proximity or position sensor, comprising an inductive coil defining the working or active face of the sensor corresponding to the external face of a covering plate or a substantially plane part of a housing or casing containing the inductive coil. The plate or plane part is made of a metal with high mechanical resistance and disposed substantially perpendicularly to the coil axis. The sensor 1 is characterized in that the plate or plane part 4 comprises at least one cut or a similar linear cut 6 extending at least partly across the plate or plane part 4.
