PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-absorbing material having high water absorption properties to cement water and calcium chloride water, gel shape-retaining property of water-absorbing gel and gel strength and exhibiting excellent water-absorbing function when the water-absorbing material is kneaded with a rubber, a plastic, a cement, etc. SOLUTION: The water-absorbing material is composed of polymer crosslinked copolymer particles obtained by copolymerizing a monomer mixture containing (i) 20-60 mol% mixture of sulfonic acid group-containing acrylamide monomers containing a sulfonic acid group-containing acrylamide monomer (A) in which a sulfonic acid group is not neutralized and a sulfonic acid group-containing acrylamide monomer (B) in which a sulfonic acid group is neutralized in a molar ratio of the monomer A to the monomer B of (20-60)/(40-80), (ii) 35-79 mol% acrylamide-based monomer and (iii)≤5 mol% unneutralized (meth)acrylic acid monomer in the presence of a crosslinking agent.
