PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting a target sequence from a specimen from which the detection of a similar sequence is also predicted, with a probe for detecting the target sequence and accurately judging the target sequence. SOLUTION: This method for detecting a gene comprises amplifying a gene specimen with a primer for amplifying the target sequence and a primer for amplifying the similar sequence, which cause a mutual cross hybridization, to distinguish the target sequence from the similar sequence, and then distinguishing and judging the presence or absence of the target sequence in the specimen from the similar sequence on the basis of the usage rates of the primers in the obtained amplification product.
