Preventing ingress of welding metal droplets into concealed zones within a work piece by insertion of mineral wool plug

In a process to prevent the ingress of welded in metal droplets into a workpiece, prior to the welding operation the vulnerable zone is protected by an internal plug consisting of a disc (10) with a mineral wool cover. The plug is subsequently removed by compressed air (13). The mineral wool is glass wool. The disc material density is about 150 kg/m(3. Further claimed is the use of the process to manufacture an automotive piston engine inlet manifold.
