A tangential milling cutting insert (10, 210) having two identical opposing end surfaces (12, 212) which are mirror symmetrical with respect to a median plane (M), with two identical opposing major side surfaces (18, 218) of a generally isosceles trapezoidal shape and two identical opposing minor side surfaces (16, 216) extending between the end surfaces (12, 212) is disclosed. Each end surface (12, 212) has a peripheral edge (40, 240) containing cutting edges (50, 250) and four corners (24, 26, 224, 226) of which two diagonally opposed corners (26, 226) are lowered and the other two (24, 224) are raised. Each end surface (12, 212) is provided with an abutment member (28, 228) having an abutment surface (30, 230). In each cross section of the cutting insert (10, 210) taken in a plane parallel to a minor plane (P1) of the cutting insert (10, 210), the abutment surface (30, 230) is closer to the median plane (M) than a respective leading section (66, 266) of a major cutting edge (52, 252). ® KIPO & WIPO 2007 |
