PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simultaneously detect torque and rotational speed of the shaft of a rotating body by a simple method and in a non-contacting state. SOLUTION: It is often necessary to find a rotational speed together with torque when performing torque detection on a rotating body. Further, the value of rotational speed is necessary also when calculating motive power since the product of torque and rotational speed is motive power. Rotational speed detection is made possible by coupling an incremental encoder, etc. to the shaft, although it makes a device larger. Therefore, it is desirable for a torque detection part to have a rotational speed detection function within, if possible. The most important characteristic of the detector is that a change in the gravity center position of a light spot is detected by using a two-dimensional area sensor, with the light spot passing through a crossing position of a slit row fixed on the input shaft side of a rotary shaft and a slit row fixed on the output shaft side thereof, to separate the change into a radial torque component and a circumferential rotational speed component for taking it out.
