PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve through-put when recording an image by comparing thickness of a recording medium with thickness of a sorting medium to eliminate an unnecessary recording head and distance changing operation of a conveying mechanism when conveying the sorting medium in an image recording device. SOLUTION: This sorting device to be mounted on an image recording device has a setting information input part, a medium determining part, a paper feeding part, a conveying mechanism, a lifting mechanism, and a control part also working to control an image recording part. A medium distance adjustment determining part determines existence of distance adjustment between the image recording part and the conveying mechanism on the basis of the recording medium information about various recording medium having a different thickness and the recording medium to be used as a sorting medium, and on the basis of a result of the determination, the conveying mechanism is moved to a distance appropriate to convey the recording medium and to record the image. In the case of continuously performing image recording jobs, the recording medium used as a sorting medium by setting is conveyed per each time when concluding each of the jobs.
