The invention concerns a process and an apparatus for producing a strand or a film substrate, comprising the steps: delivering a liquid, hardenable, preferably thermoplastic material (3) from an applicator opening (21); applying the material to the peripheral surface (12) of a rotatable drum (10); and removing the material (30) from the peripheral surface of the drum.
