An electroluminescence element has been highly demanded for an increase in the luminous intensity and a decrease in the power consumption. The purpose of this invention is to provide a lighting equipment and a display device which are innovated or given a high performance by such an element. The electroluminescence element provided by this invention comprises a first electrode layer, a luminous layer and a second electrode layer sequentially in the recited order on a transparent substrate, and is provided with an optically directive structural portion on the surface of the transparent substrate on the side of the first electrode layer.
