PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving assistance system for a vehicle capable of detecting existence of a crossover vehicle simply at low cost. SOLUTION: The driving assistance system for vehicle mounted on the vehicle for detecting other vehicle 402 having possibility of crossover to the own vehicle 401 is equipped with a laser beam projecting means to project pulse leaser beams to the prescribed region on the road surface ahead of the own vehicle at certain time intervals having duration equal to or below the prescribed value, a detecting means to detect the diffused pulse laser beams diffused by the road surface within the prescribed region, and a determining means to determine that there is other vehicle 402 having possibility of crossover to the own vehicle 401 when the diffused pulse laser beams detected with time intervals equal to or below the prescribed duration are in equal to or above the prescribed number of pulses at the timing not corresponding to the timing at which the laser beam projecting means has projected pulse laser beams to the diffused pulse laser beams detected by the detecting means.
