PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping device easily installable on the skeleton of a building and capable of securely developing a damping function and a mounting structure and a mounting method for the damping device. SOLUTION: The vertical length of a rectangular frame-shaped rectangular frame 7 of the damping device 1 is set smaller than a distance between upper and lower structural materials 2 and 3, and the lateral length of the rectangular frame 7 is set smaller than a distance between right and left structural materials 5 and 4. The rectangular frame 7 is disposed at a portion surrounded by the structural material, and the rectangular frame 7 is rigidly joined to the right and left structural materials 5 and 4 through a joining material 28. As a result, even if a distance between the upper and lower structural materials 2 and 3 or a distance between the right and left structural materials 5 and 4 is changed, the damping device 1 can be easily installed on the skeleton without changing its design and the damping function can be securely developed.
