PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need for initial transition of a liquid crystal display device in which a liquid crystal material is bend-aligned and to make the liquid crystal display device hardly cause display unevenness. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has an array substrate 10 having scanning lines 101a, signal lines 105a, pixel circuits each including a pixel switch 104a and a pixel electrode, a circuit 121 switching the scanning lines between a state wherein they are connected to one another and a state wherein they are disconnected from one another, and a circuit 122 which switches the signal lines 105a between a state wherein they are connected to one another and a state wherein they are disconnected from one another, a counter substrate 20 having a counter electrode, and a liquid crystal layer which is interposed between the array substrate 10 and counter substrate 20 and includes a polymer material and a low-molecular liquid crystal material lower than the polymer material and in which the low-molecular liquid crystal material is bent-aligned when no voltage is applied.
