PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hypertension preventing/ameliorating agent containing GABA and exhibiting excellent hypotensive action with a small amount of GABA compared with the single use of GABA by synergistic/additive effect.

SOLUTION: The hypertension preventing/ameliorating agent contains a composition derived from asparagus as an active component. Preferably, the composition derived from asparagus is obtained by the enriching treatment of asparagus to increase the content of γ-aminobutyric acid. The invention further relates to foods and drinks containing the agent.
