PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium (DTR medium) by which reduction of an S/N due to a magnetic signal from a recessed part is suppressed and stable floating of a head is made possible and which can be manufactured at low costs. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium provided with a substrate which has recording tracks and parting parts parting the recording tracks and wherein projecting and recessed patterns are formed on the parting parts and a medium film film-deposited on the substrate is characterized in that the difference between heights of the top part of the recording track and the top part of the parting part is 2 to 7 nm and the difference between heights of the top part of the recording track and the bottom part of the parting part is 10 nm or more.
