PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display an image on the screen of a monitor by an erected image at all times and to match the operating direction of a curve operation part and a moving direction on the screen of the monitor even in the case of mounting a side view type optical adapter on a distal end. SOLUTION: In the endoscope apparatus 1 of this invention, a control part 13 makes an optical adapter selection image be displayed on the screen of the monitor 7. Then, a user selects an optical adapter 6 mounted on the distal end 5 by using the optical adapter selection image. When the side view type optical adapter 6B is selected, the control part 13 controls the image pick-up processing part 15 of an image processing unit 12 so as to perform the horizontal inversion processing of image signals outputted in a horizontal direction or the vertical inversion correction processing of image signals outputted in a vertical direction. Simultaneously, the control part 13 controls an angle information conversion part 13A to execute conversion processing for matching the operating direction of a curve instruction part 9 and the moving direction on the screen of the monitor 7 to angle information signals from the curve instruction part 9 and output them to an insertion part bend circuit 14.
