[Class 83 (iii)] A driver for lathes, grinding-machines and the like comprises a ring a adapted to fit over the work-piece, a lever d mounted in the ring for radial and pivoted movement and having its inner end formed as a double cam for gripping the work-piece upon being rocked in either direction, and a spring h adapted to urge the lever inwardly. The lever d is mounted in a slot c in the ring a by means of a pin e which passes through a slotf, or hole of larger diameter than the pin, in the lever. A hole g opens into the slot f and houses the spring h and backing- screw j. Adjusting screws n and lock-nuts p are provided against which the lever d may grip the work-piece resiliently prior to the preferably-smooth cam surfaces on the lever being driven into binding engagement during the machining operation. |
