The invention regards a method for enhancing the strength of a pipe wall in relation to setting an internal plug within the pipe (1), wherein on is identifying the position where the plug should be set, arranging an exterior clamping device in relation to the pipe (1), activate the clamping device to abut against the exterior of the pipe (1) and thereby preventing the pipe (1) from being deformed in a radial direction during the following setting of a plug. The invention also regards a multi diameter clamp device for use in the method.
