<p>A contact having both an earth and a latch mechanism, a socket having the contacts, and a method of manufacturing the contact. The method comprises the steps of punching out a thin sheet metal by a prescribed die and forming the socket by using an insert mold method. Lastly, ribs are separated from the plurality of contacts after the socket is molded by an insert mold. In the step for punching out the thin sheet metal, both the plurality of slender contacts with major axes and the extended portions thereof having the earth and/or the latch mechanism are formed on the ribs. The contact comprises a horizontal member positioned parallel with a circuit board and a vertical member formed by extending in a roughly vertical direction to the horizontal member. An earth member functioning as the earth is formed by branching the vertical member, and a latch member is formed by further extending the vertical member.</p> |
