PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of increasing printing speed when printing only one page or an odd last page even in a state where double-sided printing is set, and to provide a method for controlling double-sided printing of a printer, an image forming apparatus, a controller of the image forming apparatus, and a method for controlling the image forming apparatus.

SOLUTION: The method for controlling double-sided printing of a printer includes the steps of: (S200) setting its mode to a double-sided printing mode; (S210) providing printing data; (S220) temporarily storing the printing data in a memory; (S230) judging the number of necessary pages of a printing medium based on the volume of the printing data; (S280) temporarily canceling the double-sided printing mode and making a switch to a general printing mode when the volume of the printing data is within a specific preset range; and (S290) printing in the general printing mode.
