PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrafine false-twist polytrimethylene terephthalate yarn giving a woven or knit fabric having excellent soft feeling, exquisite appearance and color development and moderate bulkiness and stretchability unattainable by conventional technique, producible in high productivity and having low environmental load of the waste water generated by alkali treatment. SOLUTION: The yarn is composed essentially of a polytrimethylene terephthalate and satisfies both of formula (1): 5≤TWA(%)≤20 and formula (2): 0.01≤FDT(dtex)≤1 wherein TWA is a dry heat shrinkage after alkali thinning treatment and FDT is a single fiber fineness after alkali thinning treatment.
