PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for friction stir welding, which apparatus can be used to set the characteristic of a welding seam to be furthermore excellent, and further to provide a method for friction stir welding. SOLUTION: The apparatus for friction stir welding comprises a pin (3), and a first friction surface segment (4), wherein the pin (3) and the first friction surface segment (4) are rotationally driven about a rotation axis (6). The first friction surface segment (4) has a first friction surface (5) to be mounted on a workpiece (2). The apparatus and the method for friction stir welding are shown in the figure and explained. The object to provide the apparatus and the method for friction stir welding, which apparatus and method can set the characteristic of the welding seam to be furthermore excellent, can be achieved by providing a feed device for introducing a filler material in the welding seam.
