PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit that enables display content to be confirmed easily, can reduce power consumption, and has excellent usability, or the like; and to provide a method of controlling the display of the image processing unit. SOLUTION: The image processing unit comprises the display that has a backlight capable of displaying an image photographed by an image pickup device, characters, and symbols; and a display control device capable of controlling the luminance of the backlight according to the kind of information displayed on the display.
