PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a very small projector suitable for projecting images. SOLUTION: This projector 10 is divided into an image projection section 2 including the optical projection system (aperture 21) and a controller 1 including the operating section 103, both being supported by a swivel hinge 3, and the optical projection axis of the projection section 2 is contained in a flat plane perpendicular to the axis of the hinge 3. The projector 10 keeps the upper surface 1a or the lower surface 1b of the controller 1 down when placed on a flat surface. The hinge 3 is disposed at one end of the projection section 2 in its longitudinal direction with the aperture 21 at the other end. A lens cover 11 is provided extending from the surface 1a of the controller 1 and covers the aperture 21 of the projection section 2 when the projector 10 is set in the attitude to stow away. The open/close angle sensor switch detects the turn angle of the hinge 3, and sends out on-signals if the projector 10 is no longer in the attitude to stow but sends out off-signals if the projector 10 is set in the attitude to stow.
