PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein it is necessary to separately provide a detecting sensor to detect paper sheet size and to detect the type of the paper sheet and, as a result, costs rise. SOLUTION: A means formed of an optical sensor and an automatic sheet feeder, to which a reading pattern is added, and for determining paper sheet size by detecting position of the paper sheet with the optical sensor on the basis of a reading value of the reading pattern is made to also work as a means for determining sort of the paper sheet.
