PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high cleaning action by controlling pH of alkaline iron powder-containing slurry in an in situ cleaning method of soil and ground water polluted with organic chlorine compound by injecting the iron powder-containing slurry into the soil. SOLUTION: The iron powder-containing slurry with pH adjusted to 8.5-10.5 by adding a hydrogen bicarbonate such as sodium bicarbonate, is injected into the soil polluted with organic chlorine compound before pH of the slurry exceeds 11.0, to decompose the iron powder-containing slurry and organic chlorine compound in the soil and/or in the ground water flowing in the soil in situ.
