APPARATUS FOR ADMINISTRATING SUBSTANCES INTO A BODY

There are a number of vaccines which are known to only produce an immune response if presented to cells in the Keratinocyte layer under the surface of the skin. At present this has been achieved by applying the vaccine to a surface of the skin and penetrating the applied area with an array of needles usually forming part of an adapted 'gun' applicator. The invention offers an improvement to this method using a delivery device in which the vaccine is stored in a container having a collapsible cover (2). To administer the vaccine the device is placed onto the skin of a patient and with the pressure from an administrator's hand, the container is collapsed causing an array of spikes (1) within the delivery device to pierce the skin and allow the drug to be administered.
