PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow high-speed data transfer accompanied by data transformation between different kinds of hosts separately connected to different RAID devices. SOLUTION: The RAID devices 14 and 16 having a remote copy function are connected to a global server 10 as a transmission source and an open server 12 as a transmission destination, while the RAID devices are connected together via an inter-casing path 18. At a start of operation, the global server 10 as a transmission source issues a remote copy starting instruction and session information to the transmission source RAID device 14, and a remote copy session using a relay volume 56 of the transmission source RAID device 14 as a copy source and a relay volume 76 of the transmission destination RAID device 16 as a copy destination is established. When data transfer is instructed, data designated by the data transfer instruction are read from the global volume 54, converted by a data conversion part 66, written in a relay buffer area 62 of the relay volume 56, and transferred via the inter-casing path 18 by remote copying.
