A liquid lens and a driving method thereof are provided to shorten the time for changing the focal distance of liquid stored in a cylinder by optimizing the frequency of AC(Alternating Current) voltage applied to the liquid, for each driving voltage. A liquid lens, in which the focal distance of liquid stored in a cylinder(415) is adjusted by AC voltage, includes first and second plates(470,435) aligned in order; the cylinder disposed between the first and second plates; a first electrode layer(460) formed on the upper surface of the first plate; a second electrode layer(420) formed on the surface of the cylinder; an insulating layer(430) arranged on the surface of the second electrode layer; and an AC voltage applying device connected to the first and second electrode layers.
