<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an expensive metal-containing steel with which the expensive metal that is lost is effectively recovered in a surface defect removing process of a cast slab in the expensive metal-containing steel and the cost reduction can be achieved by recycling. <P>SOLUTION: The surface defect removal of the cast slab containing the expensive metals such as nickel, vanadium, molybdenum, tungsten, chromium, manganese is performed with a cutting-off method and made to solid-shape by classifying the generated cut-off scrap into the respective contained expensive metals and compression forming at the high pressure of 20-800 MPa, and melted and reused in a refining process for steel containing the same expensive metal.
