PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform quick calculation of average errors in image processing by error diffusion method. SOLUTION: The average error calculating section 22 of an image processor comprises multiplication sections 26a-26g and summing memories 32a-32g, arranged in correspondence with the array of neighborhood pixels. These multiplication sections multiply the error valuesΔY<SB>0</SB>andΔY<SB>1</SB>of foremost pixels in the array of neighborhood pixels and weighting factors Ka-Kg set for respective neighborhood pixels. These summing memories perform processing for storing the sum of a stored value, arranged on its rear side and a multiplication value at a corresponding multiplication section. Processing of these summing memories are performed sequentially from ones 32e and 32g located in front toward ones 32a and 32f located in the rear, and stored values located in the forefront are summed by a final adder 36 as an average error. With such an arrangement, the number of processing clocks can be decreased, as much as possible, in the calculation processings of the average error of neighborhood pixels.
