PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of suitably obtaining image data with high quality. SOLUTION: A scanner apparatus 1 includes: a white mercury lamp 11 which emits light to an original; a carriage 4 for reading the original irradiated by the white mercury lamp 11 and forming image data on the basis of a reading result; and a control section 20 that implements light source stabilizing processing for confirming a stabilized luminous quantity of the white mercury lamp 11 at start of reading of the original and thereafter reads the original. When the original is to be read at a high resolution, the control section 20 executes standby processing for standing by for a predetermined prescribed time prior to the execution of the light source stabilizing processing and thereafter reads the original after the light source stabilizing processing.
