PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of improving the dust-proofing performance of a suction port or an exhaust port and improving convenience by effectively utilizing a cover member. SOLUTION: The projector 1 has: the suction port 810 sucking outside air in order to discharge heat generated inside a projector main body 2; the exhaust port 820 absorbing the heat and exhausting the warmed outside air to the outside of the projector main body 2; and the cover member 100 covering over at least either the suction port 810 or the exhaust port 820. The cover member 100 covers over a projection lens 59 altogether. The cover member 100 constitutes a detection part 400 together with the projector main body 2 so as to detect whether or not the cover member 100 moves to be located at a predetermined position with respect to the projector main body 2.
