PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road surface cutting apparatus which can cut grooves easily and is superior in multi-purpose performance. SOLUTION: The road surface cutting apparatus comprises a vehicle body 2 having a travel means 3, a cutting drum 11 which is a road surface cutting means incorporated into the vehicle body 2, and a height adjusting driving means 25 which adjusts the height of the vehicle body 2 from the road surface R to adjust the height of the cutting drum 11. A side drum 31 which serves as a groove cutting means is attached removably to the vehicle body 2 independently of the cutting drum 11. The side drum 31 is attached to the vehicle body 2 which is caused to travel while the side drum 31 is driven, and the height of the vehicle body 2 is changed vertically by the height adjusting driving means 25 to bring the side drum 31 to a lower position where the side drum 31 cuts the road surface R. Thus, cut grooves 61 are formed at given intervals. Meanwhile, the cutting drum 11 cuts the road surface R in regular cutting work.
