PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum material for an electrolytic capacitor electrode, which can reliably make deep etch pits uniformly formed therein at high density to increase the surface area and increase the capacitance. SOLUTION: The aluminum material for the electrolytic capacitor electrode has an alloy composition containing 0.0005 mass% or more Ga so as to control the content ratio AGa/BGa to 3 or less, where the AGa is a Ga content (mass%) in a layer between the surface and a plane 5 nm deep from the surface, and the BGa is a Ga content (mass%) in a layer inner than the plane 5 nm deep from the surface; and has a potential (E) at which current density rapidly increases, in a range nobler than -770 mV vs. S.C.E but baser than -710 mV vs. S.C.E.
