PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plate-like beam for a guard rail, and the guard rail, which can prevent a part of an automobile body of an automobile from coming off from the automobile and adhering to a surface of the plate-like beam in the state of being turned into broken pieces, even in the case of the collision or contact of the automobile. SOLUTION: The plate-like beam 10 for the guard rail has an overhanging area 11 and a depressed area 12. In the plate-like beam 10, a bolt inserting hole 14, which is formed in the overhanging area of the plate-like beam, has a recess 17 capable of housing a head part of the bolt 15.
